TechniSat Digital’s dedicated new R&D extension in Dresden, Germany

22.05.2009

TechniSat Digital continues its commitment to research and development by expanding its main R&D department in Dresden, Germany, enhancing its ability to produce new products for the consumer electronics market. The new extension was officially opened on May 5, 2009. The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Thomas Jurk (SPD), Saxon minister for economy and labour, who was joined by other guests from politics as well as the world of business and media.

 Research and Development in Germany

The Dresden R&D centre undertakes complete product development and the dedicated team has extensive competences in hardware and software design, PCB layout, plus mechanical design. A State-of-the-Art laboratory allows in-house CE conformity testing, proving compliance for electromagnetic compatibility and safety testing to EU regulations, plus environmental and reliability testing. Such a testing regime is a key part of the product development lifecycle to ensure the quality of the product from the prototype stage through to mass production.

TechniSat’s research and development provides the organization with the flexibility to react to the needs and demands of the customer.

Investment into the future

TechniSat Digital GmbH R&D facility in Dresden has experienced continual growth and expansion since its foundation in 1990. The extensive 22.000m² premises has benefited from the latest new building investment adding 4.200m2 office space and is the ideal location for the modern high tech laboratory for in-house CE conformance testing. This expansion will provide new jobs to the region and will add a further 100 engineers to the development team, allowing the number of employees to be expanded to 350.

Mr. Thomas Jurk (SPD) is very pleased about TechniSat´s decision to expand their R&D facility in Dresden: “The strategy of TechniSat to invest in R&D has worked out well. TechniSat expands – even in the current economic crisis – with innovative products and provides new jobs in Germany!” The Company´s founder and shareholder Mr. Peter Lepper is looking forward to an optimistic future: “To strengthen research & development is one of the most important points on TechniSat’s agenda. We need to distance our company from the low-priced Asian competitors, we have to be better and equip our products with additional options, which are innovative in the market and that of course, are a benefit for our customers. TechniSat has been able to carry out this philosophy in their products for the last 20 years.”

Innovation for international standard

There has been a history of innovative development at TechniSat Digital GmbH in Dresden, Germany. In 1990 the smallest satellite antenna for the reception of digital satellite radio (DSR) via TV-SAT2 was developed in Dresden. This satellite was one of the first to be able to broadcast four TV plus radio channels at orbital position 19° West. When ASTRA started its digital radio transmission system ADR in 1995, TechniSat Digital undertook the pioneering work to develop one of the first ADR transmitters. TechniSat Digital’s R&D team has built on such experience gained in the early years of digital broadcasting and continues to develop leading edge technology and innovative products based on international broadcasting standards.
