TechniSat will be launching two DAB digital radio receivers onto the market at the end of March 2004. The range consists of a fully integrated home unit called DIGITRADIO-DAB, as well as a small portable unit known as DABMAN 1.
The DIGITRADIO-DAB is an elegant table-top model in a genuine wood case, suited for reception of DAB and FM programmes, and providing an incredibly good sound quality, equal to that of digital CD?s. Scrolling text shown on the blue illuminated multi-display provides information on the programme selected, music titles, performers, or current sports events. In addition, the DIGITRADIO-DAB features an FM receiver section, two integrated stereo loudspeakers, six station keys for DAB and FM, and an optical as well as an electrical digital output. The radio is suitable for reception of VHF band III and L-band. A remote control unit is also supplied.
The DABMAN 1 is a pocket-sized portable digital radio, suitable for VHF and L bands, featuring a search function by programme type, equalizer function, LCD display, key lock and display of battery status. The radio is supplied with two rechargeable batteries, an additional adapter for mains power, headphones and headphone antenna.
The noise and interference that one is so familiar with in analogue technology are a thing of the past when you switch to the two new TechniSat digital radios.
What is DAB?
The technology for the antenna reception of digital radio is known as DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting), and dates back to a time before the concept of multi-media had been invented. Just as in the progression from phonograph records to CD?s, all that DAB does is replace the analogue storage and broadcasting of signals with a digital format.
