TechniSat at the ANGA Cable 2005 in Cologne

14.04.2005

TechniSat Digital GmbH, the Daun-based specialist for set-top boxes and market leader in Germany will be presenting a multitude of new and innovative products at this year?s ANGA Cable show, to be held from the 31.05. to 02.06.2005. At our stand Stand D13 you will be able to see new set-top boxes for the three distribution channels cable, satellite and terrestrial, as well as the new TechniSat LCD TV sets. TechniSat has achieved great success in the content field with its recently launched TechniSat Radio Bouquet, presenting customers with additional value apart from the actual receiver box.

Digital Cable receivers
The digital cable receiver DIGIT MF4-K has been available since the beginning of this year, fulfilling all the requirements for reception of the Eutelsat visAvision Cable Kiosk platform, indeed it is particularly recommended for this platform. The receiver features an integrated card reader for the CONAX encryption system, as well as an additional Common Interface slot for an additional decoding module. Just as practically all the TechniSat set top boxes, the DIGIT MF4-K also provides reception of the electronic programme guide ?SiehFern INFO? via the TechniSat aTHP-Plattform (advanced TechniSat Home Plattform). This is also utilised to provide software updates for the receivers. This means that the cable network operator does not need to provide any additional capacity for the abovementioned services.

Planned for launch by TechniSat in May 2005, the DIGIT XPK is a cable receiver that is also equipped with an integrated card reader for the CONAX encryption system, as well as with a Common Interface slot, the difference being that this model is also ?suitable for PREMIERE reception?. The DIGIT XPK can be retrofitted in order to accept a PREMIERE smart card by means of an appropriate PREMIERE decoding module (also known as a CA module). Of course, this cable receiver, used in conjunction with the PREMIERE CA module, complies with all the requirements set by KDG in Germany, and is thus also ?suitable for Kabel Digital?.

The TechniSat DIGITAL-PRK is yet another model that is both ?suitable for PREMIERE? and ?suitable for Kabel Digital?. This box is equipped with the NAGRAVISION decoding system, and features an integrated card reader. This box has been in use very successfully for some time now, and is used by PREMIERE and many cable network operators for the reception of both free-of-charge and Pay-TV channels.

A digital cable receiver featuring an integrated hard drive (so-called cable PVR box) will be launched soon, probably in the summer of 2005. The DigiCorder K2 is equipped with two separate digital receiver tuners, thus allowing you to view one programme while recording another programme, as well as the time-shift feature, which was first made available in the DigiCorder 1, and which has become extremely popular.

Additional connections, such as USB for data transfers, two Common Interface slots as well as the popular TechniSat features (e.g. software update via cable, SiehFern INFO programme guide, Super-TechniText, etc.) combine to make this model a veritable digital universal genius.

All the receiver boxes mentioned above are also available in a satellite version (e.g. as DIGIT MF4-S or DigiCorder S2).

TechniSat Radio Bouquet
A further highlight TechniSat will be presenting at its ANGA stand is the new digital radio package. TechniSat has taken on the 1:1 broadcasting of channels such as Jazz Radio Berlin, Radio Caroline, WILANTIS ? Radio for Knowledge and Radio Swiss Classic. The programmes are broadcast in CONAX encrypted form via the TechniSat donlink facility on ASTRA 19,2°. TechniSat provides its own channels as well ? currently Euroklassik 1, Radio Viola, Star*Sat Hit-Express, Star*Sat Gold as well as Star*Sat Country. Planning for additional channels is well advanced. The TechniSat radio bouquet will be expanded on 01.07.2005 with the addition of RadioRopa Hörbuch (audio books), RadioRopa Berlin and Star*Sat Easyti. The digital satellite receiver DIGIT MF4-S comes equipped with the required CONAX decoding technolgy on board. The complete TechniSat radio bouquet can be accessed by means of a smart card, which must be inserted. As a special bonus, every buyer of a DIGIT MF4-S will be given a free smart card, which provides access to the TechniSat radio bouquet at no cost until 31.03.2006. Thereafter, the cost of a subscription is ? 19,99 ? for 12 months. Of course, the subscription package can also be obtained via authorised retailers. Visitos to the TechniSat stand at the show will be able to listen in live to the various radio channels.

Cable head stations
TechniSat rings in the digital age in the field of head station technology with the launch of the TechniNet BS 1. This modern digital cable head station provides a convenient facility to build an attractive programme package for customers, drawing on the huge multitude of free-to-air digital programmes available via satellite. Conversions are possible from QPSK to PAL analogue, and, using appropriate QPSK/QAM cassettes, complete digital satellite transponders with up to 10 television and radio programmes can be converted to a digital cable channel. The modular structure of the system provides a multitude of applications, as well as facilities for adding further TV and radio programmes at a later stage. Evaristo Saez, head of the department of installation products and cable head stations at TechniSat, declares: ?The TechniNet BS 1 by TechniSat is one of the most modern and also one of the most economic chanel processing systems?.

DigiDish 33 ? top-class reception with a diameter of only 33 cm
For millions of households, the conventional satellite antennas are simply either too large, or are considered to be not attractive to look at. The engineers at TechniSat have taken this consumer need to heart, and have developed a satellite antenna that meets with the requirements of these households, which have so far decided against the reception of digital TV and radio programmes via satellite.

These decisions are made in spite of the fact that digital satellite reception provides the greatest programme choice of all the digital transmission channels. The result: the digital satellite antenna DigiDish 33, with a diameter of only 33 cm. The development has had a clear effect: the satellite antenna DigiDish 33 has opened up a whole new group of customers for TechniSat. This diminutive but extremely powerful DigiDish antenna can be installed in many locations where there is insufficient space for a conventionally-sized satellite antenna. This applies particularly where either physical restrictions of space or legal restrictions imposed by landlords have hitherto prevented installation of an antenna.

DigiDish 33 will find a space anywhere ? ideal for rented flats and apartments in multi-party buildings
The DigiDish 33 will fit in almost anywhere, and can be installed in such a manner that it is not obvious. It is particularly this option of unobtrusive installation that is an absolute deciding factor for many customers. The DigiDish can even be installed ?upside down?, thus providing many interesting additional installation options. Using the DigiDish 33, with its small diameter of only 33 cm, tenants can enjoy the multitude of digital programmes provided via satellite without the reception antenna disturbing the lines of the building or of a balcony. It is even possible to install two DigiDish 33 satellite antennae in order to receive two different orbital positions. Even then, the combined antenna array will take up less space than a conventional satellite antenna with a diameter of 85 cm.

All-in-one packages ? satellite reception is child?s play
TechniSat provides the DigiDish in consumer-friendly complete packages. These kits contain everything the consumer needs to enjoy digital satellite reception. The package contains the high-performance satellite antenna DigiDish 33, made of aluminium and with a diameter of only 33 centimetres, a wall-mounting bracket featuring innovative mounting technology, ensuring particularly quick and easy installation, and 10 metres of cable. In addition, the package contains a high-performance, fully-featured digital satellite receiver. Here the customer can choose either the DigitMod S1 or the DIGIT 4S digital satellite receiver. Currently, TechniSat even includes all the tools required for installation in the package. Switching to digital can hardly be any simpler than tha. Even customers who are not technically-minded will find it is child?s play to enjoy the multitude of digital television and radio programmes via satellite. TechniSat provides the DigiDish 33 packages in versions for either one or two receiving parties.

TV sets with integrated DVB module
It is only logical that TechniSat should utilise its know-how as the leading German manufacturer of digital set-top boxes used to receive satellite, cable and terrestrial programmes, and integrate this in the reliable and trusted TechniSat television sets. Even such familiar features as the TechniSat AUTOINSTALL function, Automatic Software Update, ISIPRO programme liste updating, SiehFern INFO electronic programme guide ? all are available with the integrated DVB modules.

All current TechniSat television sets of the ClassicLine, MonitorLine, KinoLine and Colani TV 72 ranges can be supplied equipped ex factory with an integrated DVB module for the reception of digital cable programmes. Of course, the digital upgrade can also be carried out at a later stage.

For this purpose, a DVB-T/C digital module is available for all television sets with a 5000 series chassis, as an upgrade kit (combination module for reception of digital cable and digital terrestrial programmes).Naturally, the television sets ClassicLine, MonitorLine, KinoLine and Colani TV 72 are also available with a DVB-S module (for reception of digital satellite programmes), or can be upgraded at a later stage.TechniSat plans to expand its range of LCD television sets in future. Plans are to make the first TechniSat LCD flat-screen television sets with integrated digital reception module for cable, satellite and terrestrial available as of summer 2005. Visit TechniSat at the ANGA Cable at stand D13 in hall 14.2. Any requests for interviews should please be arranged with TechniSat prior to the show.
