TechniSat, one of the few German manufacturers to develop and produce multiswitches in Germany has extended its multiswitch product family with the addition of a further premium multiswitch series called GigaSystem 17/8. The new GigaSystem 17/8 distributes 16 Sat-IF levels and one terrestrial radio/TV input to eight subscribers.
17/8 multiswitches are available on the German market from a large number of Asian manufacturers. Many installers have had bitter experiences with the poor quality of these multiswitches which unfortunately often leave much to be desired. With the GigaSystem 17/8, TechniSat is introducing a new class of high-quality multiswitches. Based on many years of experience in the area of large-scale multiswitch systems worldwide, Technisat multiswitches have been constantly further optimised with regard to quality, continuous load and high demands.

Quality multiswitches Made in Germany!
Many installers have made the bitter experience that although tempting, cheap multiswitches from the Far East do not live up to the quality they promise. There are often problems with crosstalk on the Sat IF inputs and poor quality, which causes mutual interference between different frequencies from different inputs. This is due to poor Sat IF input decoupling. The same problem always occurs when several multiswitches are cascaded with each other. This poor decoupling then also occurs between the output trunks from one multiswitch to another. Decoupling of the multiswitches from Asia, also at the trunk outputs, is more than inadequate. This is where the secret or the most important characteristic feature of a multiswitch lies: Decoupling!

Maximum decoupling for maximum reliability
The GigaSystem 17/8 offers exceptional decoupling values, not only at the inputs, but also in the trunk and branch section. In the input and trunk section, the GigaSystem has a decoupling value of > 45 dB and at the branch outputs towards the receiver, a decoupling value of > 35 dB. These exceptional decoupling values ensure maximum reliability. The problem is clear. Input or trunk decoupling that is too low can cause mutual interference between identical frequencies from different satellite IF levels, and thus degrade the reception of these frequencies. This problem is also known from poorly decoupled twin or quatro switch LNBs.

Reception of up to 16 IF levels
With the GigaSystem 17/8, up to four satellite positions or a total of 16 IF blocks can be distributed throughout a building. This large number of inputs offers varied programme selection. The immense growth of digital satellite TV and radio programmes makes it necessary for home owners and installers to provide more satellite positions. By clever combination at the input of the 17/8, a large number of different satellite positions can be realised by supplying specific IF levels; the IF levels must be set on the multiswitch and the receiver programmed appropriately.

Combination with head-end
Irrespective of the required satellite combination, the TechniSat GigaSystem 17/8 with its 17 inputs is suitable for the random combination of four satellites including terrestrial or BK supply. Combination and supply with head-end via the terrestrial input is the ideal solution. This ensures basic provision of the most important German-language programmes in the cable network. The customer does not need an additional receiver and can receive the programmes directly to the television. The combination of head-end and multiswitch system is the ideal solution for communal installations where numerous languages and programmes are required. Where German language programmes are sufficient for certain viewers, basic provision can be realised via a head-end. The multiswitch together with matching receiver is available for customers requiring more programmes.

Boundless expansion options
The 17/8 greatly facilitates the work involved in the installation of complex systems involving various relays and is also space-saving and highly efficient. The combination of different satellite outdoor units with diverse LNBs poses no problem for the 17/8. The basic unit is capable of supplying the LNBs with both 13 and 18V and there is also a variant that can be supplied to the first Sat position, multiswitch input, quatro switch LNB or also diverse twin or single LNBs, which can then be controlled with an additional 22 kHz for the high bands. All further multiswitch Sat position inputs deliver only the 13/18V DC voltage. The special Sat inputs of the 17/8 multiswitch thus operate together both with quatro LNBs as well as quatro switch LNBs. This makes the TechniSat GigaSystem 17/8 ideal for the expansion of existing multi-subscriber installations.

Optimised signal quality
As with all of its multiswitches, TechniSat attaches great importance to the optimal no-loss signal quality of the new 17/8. The multiswitch operates with internal amplification that not only compensates distribution losses, but also contributes via a positive slope towards the compensation of loss unavoidably caused by coaxial cable. The high decoupling value of 45 dB on the trunk lines and 35 dB at the subscriber inputs enables also larger installation to be set up with GigaSystem 17/8 series products.

Powerful switched-mode power supply
The super switched-mode power supply developed by TechniSat engineers is not only capable of supplying the basic unit and LNB, but also three further 17/8 cascades if necessary. This switched-mode power supply is absolutely short-circuit-proof and ideal for permanent continuous operation due to its rugged design.

Easily realise star and storey distribution
With the accessories available for the GigaSystem 17/8 such as the intermediate amplifier 17 Z/NT, a passive distributor 17 P-R and an active two-way distributor 17 A-R, all possible cable constellations required for communal installations can be realised. More than 40 subscribers can be supplied by the skilled combination of these accessories. For example, with the passive distributor 17 P or also active two-way distributor 17/2AR, storey sub-distribution is easily possible, but also the classic star structure with connection to a central point for large numbers of subscribers can also be realised. The amplifier 17 Z/NT easily compensates damping with an active slope of 7 ? 13 dB with long cable lengths. These accessories can also be remotely supplied by the powerful power supply of the basic unit, whereby the intermediate amplifier is supplied by its own power supply, so that the basic units are relieved depending on the system constellation. This system also takes terrestrial aspects into account. The terrestrial input is also capable of efficiently supplying both analogue BK, digital cable television or also DVB-T.

Reverse channel technology on the move
The ever increasing demand for reverse channel technology has been taken into account in the GigaSystem 17/8 G. The components of this system are designed to operate with reverse channel technology. In the course of further development, the matching basic units and cascades will be available in this technology in the future, so that nothing stands in the way of interactive television of tomorrow.

TechniSat GigaSystem 17/8 accessoriesIntermediate amplifier 17Z/NT:
Intermediate amplifier with power supply and active slope of 7 to 13dB. The intermediate amplifier is used where it is necessary to increase signal gain within the system. This can be used between the cascades or individual distributors as required.

Passive distributor 17/PR:
Passive distributor with 17 inputs and 2 x 17 outputs with extremely low throughput damping of only 4dB. This component enables the installation of two trunks within a building.

Active two-way distributor 17/2AR:
Active two-way distributor with amplification. This outstanding two-way distributor serves for storey distribution within a building. This active distributor features 17 inputs and 17 loop-through outputs enabling signal loop-through from floor to floor. The distributor also has two active branch stages, i.e. 2x 17 outputs as a branch for establishing two further trunks within a floor. Taking into account the slope, these trunks are provided with a gain of +4dB. The damping level is only -1dB in loop-through mode.
